Description
Betadine 5% Solution is utilized for addressing common skin infections. It effectively treats and helps prevent skin infections resulting from minor burns, lacerations (deep skin cuts), cuts, and abrasions (areas where the top layer of skin has been scraped away). Skin infections occur when foreign microorganisms such as fungi or bacteria invade the skin and impact the tissues.
Betadine 5% Solution consists of Povidone Iodine. It functions by preventing the growth of microbes that cause infections. As a small molecule, iodine can penetrate microorganisms easily and oxidize critical proteins, nucleotides, and fatty acids, resulting in cell death. Betadine 5% Solution is effective against bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa.
Betadine 5% Solution is intended exclusively for external application. Common side effects may include redness or inflammation of the skin, peeling, dryness, and irritation at the site of application. These side effects typically resolve during the course of treatment and do not necessitate medical intervention. However, if side effects persist longer, please consult a medical professional.
Inform your doctor about your medical history if you have an allergy to iodine or povidone. Notify your doctor if you have any thyroid conditions, liver, or kidney issues prior to using Betadine 5% Solution. It is also important to inform your doctor if you are receiving lithium therapy or radioactive iodine treatment. Avoid using Betadine 10% Solution before or after undergoing radioiodine scintigraphy or radioiodine therapy for thyroid cancer. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding before using Betadine 10% Solution.
